The 4 month campaign of The Jakarta Schools Football League came to a close last Saturday with The Greenfield’s Cup Finals and two separate Gala Awards events.
With 6 age groups to cover involving 1500 players and parents, the Awards ceremony included dancers, drummers, football personalities and a special appearance from Franco Berasi, the retired captain of AC Milan, who donated 4 signed Milan football shirts to the occasion in a Lucky Draw. It was joint-hosted by JSFA committee members and P.J Roberts from ESPN Football in Singapore.
The 5 finals brought the total match-count of the league to 630 and the goal count to 4072 for the season.
The Greenfield’s finals were all very close with the U12 match between Sekolah Tiara Bangsa and Jakarta International School going down to sudden death penalties after an equal number of misses from both sides following a 2-2 draw. Tiara Bangsa eventually prevailed and doubled-up their cup final success by also securing the Under 8 title when edging past British International School A 3-2 with a vital goal 2 minutes from time.
BIS faired better in the Under 10’s however by winning the double in cup and league when overcoming SDI Al Azhar 3-1. This was a game of two halves which saw BIS 2-0 up and comfortable early on, only to be pegged back by Al Azhar who took control of the game in the final quarter. The killer goal for BIS came from a long through-ball out of defense and a glancing header from forward Jeremy Hillock who found the opposition net to finally win the game.
The U14 final went to script when unbeaten Jakarta International School were again too strong for arch-rivals British International School A with a 2-0 victory and the same margin as their league encounter the previous week.
JIS also took the U16 trophy after beating a resolute Jombang Boys team from the B Division 3-2 on the day.
This was the fifth year of the JSFA which has grown beyond everyone’s expectations since its humble beginnings in 2005. The competition included participation from a total of 54 schools and 2000 students throughout the season. It is undoubtedly the largest competition of its kind in the ASEAN region.
